Trip to Mutrah Fort, one of the oldest fortifications in Oman.

Muttrah Fort, imposing structure stands as a reminder of Oman’s rich and vibrant history.
Our trip to the Mutrah Fort was a memorable one. We started our journey from Sohar and had a great time exploring one of the oldest forts in wiliyat Mutrah in Muscat, Oman. We got to witness the grandeur of this historic structure, which has been standing since the 1507 AD. With its majestic views and breathtaking architecture, our trip to Mutrah Fort was an unforgettable experience that we'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a holiday destination in Oman.

What to look forward to see?

Since the main purposes of Muttrah Fort have been observation and defensive weapons, it is comparatively small fort, has no rooms or seating areas, and is simply stretched along the hill, providing numerous views of the harbor, corniche, and stunning ophiolite outcrops in Muttrah. The historic cannons dispersed around the walls of the fort are interesting to see, as are the slightly more contemporary WWII-era artillery weapons, but for me, the panoramic view of Muttrah Corniche alone makes Muttrah Fort a must-visit location!

In order to get to Muttrah Fort, which is sitting on a hill overlooking the Muttrah Corniche, you must first pass the Souq Muttrah. Then, after turning right at the spot where the "Place and People Museum," formerly known as Ghalya's Museum of Modern Art, Muttrah Fort parking lot will be on your right side. After that you must continue walk on a narrow path that winds uphill.
